The hardest part of a mixer is the first ten minutes, and that part is our job, not yours.
We seat you, we start the first conversation, and then we get out of the way. Coming alone is the normal way to come to this one.

What actually happened
The room found its feet about forty minutes in, which is slower than we would like.
We seated two tables too close to the speakers and those guests spent the night half-shouting. That is on us, and it is a thing we can fix by moving furniture. What worked: nobody stood against a wall on their phone.
